bell hooks, aka Gloria Jean Watkins

The author, professor and activist published more than 30 books in her lifetime, writing about topics including race, feminism, capitalism and intersectionality. Her pseudonym, bell hooks, was chosen as a tribute for her mother and grandmother and the decision to not capitalize her name was taken so the focus could be on the substance of her work and ideas, more so than her personality. hooks taught at institutions such as Stanford, Yale, Oberlin College and The City College of New York. In 2004, hooks returned to Kentucky to teach at Berea College, where she also founded the bell hooks Institute to preserve her legacy and opened the bell hooks Center in September 2021.

Our items are named after the works of artists who have shaped us, whether socially, artistically or culturally, that have expanded our universe and guided us to look inward alike. Whether it’s a book you can cling to when feeling lonely, or a song to scream at the top of your lungs during a roadtrip, they’re here to remind you that you’ve got nothing to prove, but everything to feel.

Longevity and care

All our items are sewn with the utmost care to ensure they will be staples in your wardrobe for years to come. In order to aid their capacity to last, especially when it comes to our natural fabrics that are more sensitive than synthetics, please ensure to follow the care instructions below:

only wash when necessary on a gentle cycle at 20°C or at most 30°C
do not use bleach and be careful when using spot cleaning treatments to ensure they are suitable for the fabric at hand
do not tumble dry
iron inside out on low

Standard shipping can take up to 4 weeks as your items are made to order.

As part of our updated production system, the following sizes are available exclusively via custom order: XXS, XS, and 6XL through 10XL.

These sizes are not stocked, but made through our custom process to ensure a more precise fit, reduce unnecessary returns and support responsible production across our full size range.

Custom orders are also available for any standard in-stock size if you’d like specific adjustments.

What can be customised

We can accommodate a range of alterations, including:

sizing adjustments when you’re between sizes
tall or petite length changes
widening sleeves for a more comfortable fit over the bicep
producing a design in a different colour or suitable fabric
customisations for accessibility or mobility needs

Pricing

Custom orders follow two different pricing rules, depending on the size category:

On-demand sizes (XXS, XS, 6XL–10XL)
Custom orders for these sizes remain complimentary on all full-priced items. This allows us to continue offering our full size range with care, precision and no additional cost to you.

In-stock sizes (S–5XL)
Custom orders requested for standard in-stock sizes are not complimentary. Pricing varies depending on the complexity and extent of the requested changes.

For all paid customisations, you’ll receive a clear quote before production begins, so you can decide whether to proceed.

Important information

Custom orders are not eligible for returns.
Accurate measurements and detailed information are essential & the client is responsible for providing all relevant sizing details.
Once a custom order is confirmed and production has begun, changes cannot be made.

The BUST circumference should be measured under your arms, around the body, over the fullest area of your bust.

The WAIST circumference should be measured around the body, at the natural waistline, at the smallest point in between the chest and belly button.

The HIPS circumference should be measured around the body, across the fullest part of the hips.
