• Made from soft poplin in black, the Lilian are a classic pair of wrap pants with a front and back side that are overlapped and tied on the opposite side. They are full length and the overlapping is generous enough to ensure the pants will not part at the sides.

Despite her key role in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, details about Lilian Ngoyi’s life remain sparse. While she was working at a garment factory between 1945 and 1956, she joined and became active in the Garment Workers Union, under the leadership of Solly Sachs. She was South Africa’s “mother of the black resistance”, the first woman member of the national executive committee – the core leadership of the African National Congress (ANC), the resistance movement that would later become the government of a democratic South Africa, and, also, one of the leaders of the country’s famous Women’s March.
